Spirit Communication: Oracle Cards

A question that newer practitioners often ask is, “What is the difference between Tarot Cards and Oracle Cards?” The difference is that the Tarot is a structured card system that is more or less the same in each Tarot deck. You’ll always find the major arcana and the four minor arcana suits in each deck. Some decks take some liberties and add more cards than just the major and minor arcana, but the major and minor arcana make it a true Tarot deck. If you pick up two Tarot decks, you’re guaranteed to have the same structure with the major and minor arcana. Meanwhile, Oracle card decks have no structure and differ from deck to deck.

While I would love to give a guide on how to read Oracle Cards, each deck is a learning curve in itself since they’re all different. Thankfully, most of them do come with a guidebook to interpret them or have their meanings right on the card.

The real struggle you might have with Oracle Cards is learning which deck to use and when. For example, while you could use an oracle deck meant for career readings in a love reading, why would you? It really only makes it harder on yourself. However, it is interesting when a spirit chooses a deck you wouldn’t expect! I’ll touch more on this in a future post.

Some oracle decks are good as “all-around” decks that can be suited for any reading. Some of my favorites include the Prism Oracle and the Energy Oracle Cards.

Overall, pick the decks you feel called to in the moment. It’s more of an exercise in intuition on what deck would make the most sense at the time.
